American football or football in the United States and Canada is also known as gridiron, is a team sport. Football is played by two teams. Each team has eleven members. It is played on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, is the team which has control of the ball. Offense team tries to move towards the field end by running with or passing the ball. The defense is the team without control of the ball. Defense tries to stop the offense and take control of the ball for themselves. The offense must advance at least ten yards in four plays (downs), or else they have to turn over the ball to the defense. If they succeed, they are given a new set of four downs. If offense takes the ball to the defense’s end zone it is called a touchdown and gets six points. If offense kicks the ball through the defense’s goalposts it is called field goal and gets three points. The team with the most points at the end of a game wins.
